Director of research at the National Laboratories of Gran Sasso of the INFN, he coordinates the PhD in Astroparticle Physics at the GSSI.
Master in physics at the University of Pisa (1990). PhD in physics at the ISAS-SISSA (1994).
First recipient of the Occhialini Medal of SIF-IOP (2008).
He gave lectures on "Frontiers of the Standard Model" at the University of L'Aquila (master course) and on "Neutrino physics" at the Milan University and at the GSSI (PhD courses). He has had the pleasure and honor to follow several students in their dissertations and PhD.
His scientific interests concern mainly neutrinos, astroparticle physics, physics beyond the standard model. Indeed, he worked on: supernova neutrinos; very high energy neutrinos and gamma rays; connections between particle physics and astrophysics; cosmic rays; lepto/baryogenesis. Manifestations of neutrino masses; flavor oscillations; neutrinoless double beta decay; probes of neutrino masses. Tests of the lepton/baryon numbers and of CP violation. Extensions of the standard model. The scientific papers can be found at,
He likes to discuss physics at all levels. He is a strong advocate of the importance of scientific dissemination and for this reason he created the Asimov Prize, aimed to award popular science books published in Italy.
