MASLOVA Sabina

Sabina is a geographer and urban researcher with experience of analytical work in consulting and real estate.

In 2012 she graduated from Lomonosov Moscow State University where she had the specialization on Social and Economic Geography of Foreign Countries. In the studies she was focusing on regional economy, urban research, human geography, demographic and economic trends in urban areas. After graduation she worked on the various projects in real estate analysis, strategic urban and regional planning, urban studies and anthropological research, city marketing, urban development, consulting, architectural competitions. Throughout the working experience her major focus was on developing comprehensive and multidisciplinary vision on the urban systems.

Few years later she has completed a postgraduate research programme in urban studies at the Strelka Institute for Media, Architecture and Design (Moscow, Russia) where she had the chance to change the perspective and explore new ways of learning. At Strelka Institute together with 40 architects, economists, urban planners and other professionals from all over the world she was researching urban routines of Moscow in daily life of the citizens. Working hand in hand in interdisciplinary and multicultural teams, Sabina has broadened the range of known research methods from academic to alternative tools, such as sensing, storytelling and paradoxes. Having research-based design as a new mindset, she within the Car Research Studio conducted the research on mobility in Russia, her individual project unveiled pedestrian routines and mobility-on-foot in Moscow. 

As a researcher in Graduate Higher School of Urban Studies and Planning, she has been working on the study about human development potential in Russian cities, discovering how human capital, migration and urban environment change economic potential of the cities.

For the further research Sabina is interested in developing the topics such as the role of the transnational migrants in the city’s temporal-spatial relations, highly mobile persons transforming places, work-life balancing in the cities
and the matter of space in fluid, mobile and detached times.
