Non standard transport NsT@GSSI

  • Date July 15-17, 2015
  • Room GSSI
  • Speaker many speakers
  • Area Maths

From the interior of living cells to the oceans and the atmosphere, transport processes are crucial to understand variegate phenomena encompassing many problems at the interface between physics, biology and chemistry. In particular, during the last couple of decades, non-standard transport properties has been recognized to be a fundamental ingredient in anomalous diffusion, diffusion and reactions in heterogeneous systems (such as networks or the crowded environment of living cells), the transport of active particles (such as swimming microorganisms) and even in the evolution of populations. A variety of tools and ideas from stochastic processes, dynamical systems and fluid mechanics have been developed to approach these different problems.

The main goal of this school/workshop is to provide a framework to discuss among (senior and younger) researchers who, sometimes with different perspectives and/or background, are interested in non-standard transport properties so to facilitate the cross-fertilization of ideas, tools and problems. To this aim two mini-courses will cover on general aspects of the subject and some thematic seminars will survey recent developments.
